The Bon’s Eye Team is lucky to have another phenomenal intern join us for the summer! She’s just as excited as we are so we wanted to help you get to know her too. Here are her answers to a few of our questions that share what Mary is all about.
1. Tell us about yourself.
I am a blend of small town southern gal with a splash of city glam. I was raised in an NC farming community by lost New Yorkers. I enjoyed where I grew up, but also love to visit the big city. Living on the coast in Wilmington is a new adventure for me. To reside where people vacation is so surreal.
In my free time I enjoy going to the beach and hanging out with friends. I am a Pinterest addict with an obsession for beauty and fashion blogs. I’m absolutely amazed how colors, fabrics, and patterns come together to create something unique and eclectic. I crave the latest trends, and enjoy making them unique to my personality. Shopping is a huge motivator for me. I’m always on the “hunt” for the perfect item to complete a room or outfit. A true “Maxxinista,” I find bargains just around every corner. You can often find me playing the role of DIY wannabe. Even though some things don’t turn out as planned, I see it as a step in the right direction.
2. Why did you choose UNCW and COM Studies?
After high school, I attended Queens University of Charlotte for two years before transferring to UNCW. I chose to study Communication because there are endless opportunities in this field. Since the start of my journey, I have truly fallen in love with my major. I find it fascinating how consumers are targeted and marketed to every day.
3. What tasks are you hoping to complete at BEM?
I hope to see how a client’s idea or proposal comes to life through Bon’s Eye’s process. I want to get a feel for what it is like to work at a marketing firm on a day-to-day basis. I am particularly excited to work in an agency setting versus an internal marketing department.
4. What are your long-term goals professionally?
Long-term goals — that is definitely a difficult question. Students often feel as though they should have it all figured out after college. However, with my last semester quickly approaching, I have come to realize this is not reality. As of now, my long-term goals are to graduate in the fall from UNCW and work for a year or so to figure out the best focus for a master’s degree. I hope this internship will not only be a great learning opportunity, but will help me decide if marketing is the right career path for me.
